Gospel Definitions: Alistair Begg

Here’s the gospel in a phrase. Because Christ died for us, those who trust in him may know that their guilt has been pardoned once and for all. What will we have to say before the bar of God’s judgment? Only one thing. Christ died in my place. That’s the gospel.

Christians and alcohol

Why is drinking alcohol always mentioned when Christians talk about “contextualization” and “missional communities”? Do we really need to drink to reach people with the Gospel?

Is Food the New Sex?

I f it is true that food is the new sex, however, where does that leave sex? This brings us to the paradox already hinted at. As the consumption of food not only literally but also figuratively has become progressively more discriminate and thoughtful, at least in theory (if rather obviously not always in practice), the consumption of sex in various forms appears to have become the opposite for a great many people: i.e., progressively more indiscriminate and unthinking.

Joy in suffering

Chip Stam is a friend of my dad’s who is on the faculty at the School of Church Music and Worship at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in June of 2008 and after chemo, the doctors thought that the cancer was gone. Sadly, the cancer has returned. He is not deterred, however, from being joyful in Christ. Here is how he closed his most recent email

It is exciting to imagine how our gracious Lord will certainly accomplish his good purposes for those who love Him. Your prayers are precious to us at this time.

Would that I have such confidence and joy in our glorious Savior.
